About Deogyusan National Park

Deogyusan National Park, located in the southwestern region of South Korea spanning portions of North Jeolla and North Gyeongsang provinces, is a haven of natural beauty anchored by Deogyusan Mountain, which rises to 1,614 meters. Established in 1975, the park covers rugged forested peaks, deep valleys, crystal-clear streams, and vibrant alpine meadows. This park is ecologically rich, featuring mixed coniferous and deciduous forests that shelter a variety of flora and fauna including rare species such as the Siberian musk deer and Korean goral. The park’s well-maintained trail network provides hikers with routes ranging from accessible day hikes to rigorous ascents to the summit with panoramic views. Deogyusan is also home to several Buddhist temples nestled peacefully in forested hollows, offering cultural appeal alongside natural splendor. In winter, the park transforms into a popular destination for snow sports, particularly at the nearby Muju Ski Resort. Scenic spots like Hyangjeok Peak and Birobong Peak serve as iconic landmarks for photography and wildlife observation. Visitors are drawn to the serene atmosphere, opportunities for seasonal foliage viewing, and access to hot springs in the surrounding areas. Deogyusan National Park combines rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, and recreational variety, making it a treasured destination for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike.
